Saturday: Fresh Bacon, a $200 Benihana Lunch & Leftovers for Everyone
Got up this morning and made a fresh batch of bacon.
The kids also finished off the last of the waffles we made earlier this week, and then we got to work on our usual Saturday morning chores.
Nothing particularly exciting. Just all those little things around the house that need to get done.
But lunch today was a little different.
A Very Fancy Saturday Lunch
One of our credit cards has something called a Resy credit.
Don’t ask me exactly how it works.
Chris manages all of that.
But basically, we have a credit we can use at certain restaurants, and there’s a local Benihana that qualifies.
The credit was about to expire, so Chris decided to take two of our kids out for lunch.

And let me tell you, Benihana is apparently not an inexpensive Saturday lunch.
Their bill was just under $200.
For lunch!
Thankfully, we had the credit to use toward it, and they had a great time.
It was a fun little outing for the three of them, and they even brought home a bunch of leftovers.
Which, of course, is my favorite part.
Meanwhile, Back at Home…
The rest of us were eating from the refrigerator.
I still had some of the Dijon grilled chicken I made Wednesday night, so I pulled that out.
We also had the last of the Teton Waters Ranch Polish sausage from last night’s dinner.
So I warmed up the chicken and sausage, made a box of macaroni and cheese for the kids who wanted it, and added fruit and vegetables.
Done.
For myself, I took some of the grilled chicken, diced it into smaller pieces and warmed it with barbecue sauce.
Then I added it to a salad.
I’ve mentioned this before, but when you’re reheating chicken breast, I really like to cut it into small pieces first.
Warm it gently in a pan with a little sauce or moisture, and it heats so much more evenly than trying to warm up a whole thick chicken breast.
The outside doesn’t have to get tough and chewy while you’re waiting for the center to heat.
And barbecue chicken on a salad?
Always good.
Another Dinner at My Parents’ House
This afternoon, we went to Mass, and then we headed over to my parents’ house for dinner.
They made steak, rice, salads, vegetables and fruit.

And naturally, my mom sent us home with leftovers.
I feel like at this point I should just add weekly steak delivery to my meal-planning system.
Because somehow I keep coming home with steak, and I’m certainly not complaining.
Tomorrow’s Lunch Is Already Handled
Between the Benihana leftovers Chris brought home and the food my parents sent with us tonight, I have plenty of options for lunch tomorrow.
Which is excellent because I really want to get to Costco.
We’ve done a pretty good job working through the proteins I cooked earlier in the week.
The big batch of taco meat from Monday is gone.
The grilled chicken from Wednesday is almost gone.
The Polish sausage is finished.
We’ve eaten through the leftover waffles.
And now it’s time to restock and start again.
